Yangqin
is said to have been introduced into China in Ming Dynasty (1368-1644AD).
At first it went around in Guangdong, and now it is popular throughout
the country. The instrument is usually played to accompany dramas
and other art performances. It is suitable for instrumental ensemble
as well as for solo. Yangqin is a wood trapezoid-shaped soundboard
with several steel strings stretching. The player uses bamboo gavel
to tap clear and euphonious notes. In recent years, Yangqin has made
farther development by its larger size and more strings. As a result,
both the diapason and the volume are broadened in addition to inflexion
available.
