Hymn to the Goose

Luo Binwang(Tang)

Honk, honk, and konk,

With upward neck thou to the sky loudly sing.

Thy white feathers float onthe water green,

Thy red webs push the crystal waves with a swing.

Comment

The poem paints a lively picture of the goose swimming joyfully on the pond. With its honks and web paddling, echoing around, the white feathers, the red webs and the crystal blue water make a bright water-color of the goose sporting in the water.

注释 Notes

1.	骆宾王（约626--约684），婺州义乌（今浙江）人，唐朝初期与王勃、杨炯、卢照邻并称为“初唐四杰”。相传这首诗是他七岁时作的。
2.	曲 q%：弯曲。
3.	项 xi4ng：脖子。
4.	拨 b5：划动。

赏析 Comment

诗歌有声有色地描写了白鹅玩水的情景。鹅的叫声，鹅掌划动的水声，在空中传送；白的鹅毛，红的鹅掌，清澈的绿水，相映成一幅色彩鲜艳的白鹅戏水图。(English version)

Author

Luo Binwang (around 626--around 684) of the Tang Dynasty, born at Yiwu, Wuzhou, Zhejiang Province, was regarded as one of the most preeminent Four Poets of the Early Tang Dynasty, the other three being Wang Bo, Yang Jiong and Lu Zhaolin. It is assumed that he wrote this poem at 7.
