| The poem reads as if the poet were writing to his friend a letter which begins with the red beans sprouting in spring and ends in their ripening in autumn, thereby expressing his ardent desire that they should keep in touch and miss each other. In presenting their friendship the poet uses the red beans as a symbol to connect them after they are apart. The title Missing My Friend echoes in the last line and strengthens their close ties and sharing of feelings. The poem is written in such a plain and familiar tone, as one chats about his family affairs with a friend. |
